Nearly 100 Uninsured Vehicles Confiscated In Recent Crackdown

A recent operation by West Yorkshire Police resulted in the removal of almost 100 uninsured vehicles from the roads.

The initiative ran over a period of 20 days, from June to October, in collaboration with the Motor Insurers‘ Bureau (MIB).

During this time, police stopped 394 vehicles across the county’s five policing districts. Among these, eight were reported as stolen, and 96 were found to be uninsured and were taken off the roads.

A police spokesperson emphasized that efforts to address the issue of uninsured driving will persist beyond the end of this operation.

As part of Operation Scalis, West Yorkshire Police reported 167 motorists for various traffic offences.

Among these, 24 were found to be driving untaxed vehicles, and 48 were operating vehicles without a valid MOT. Additionally, arrests were made in connection with the eight stolen vehicles.

Ch Insp James Farrar, who leads the Roads Policing Unit, stated, “There is a clear connection between uninsured drivers and criminal activity, and the results of Operation Scalis have reinforced this.

We will keep conducting operations aimed at targeting those who think they can break the law on our roads.”
