Manulife Hong Kong Tie-up Brings Cashless Cross-border Medical Treatment

It also has improved care and the added value medical services.

Manulife Hong Kong has signed an agreement with New Frontier Group, a healthcare service provider in Greater China to improve its health care solutions for its customers who need medical facilities in Mainland China.

The collaboration, which is done through New Frontier’s subsidiary Prosper Health, implements the cashless payment option for the policyholders who are allowed to directly pay for the treatments within the network without any cash outlay.

This initiative is in line with the increasing need for a single point of access to cross border Healthcare services especially for people from Hong Kong who require medical services in the mainland. It also fits with Manulife’s attempt to diversify its services in the GBA, which has mainly been in medical management and cancer treatment and prevention.

Cashless Services For The Qualified

Customers

New products in the pipeline are cashless settlement for day-case surgeries at United Family Hospitals and the inpatient procedures within Prosper Health’s Mainland China medical network.

Customers can also receive chemotherapy and radiotherapy at United Family Hospitals, and the insurer can directly pay pre-approved amounts to Prosper Health if pre-authorisation is sought prior to treatment.

This system is designed to minimize the monetary and clerical cost on customers so that they can pay more attention to their health issues.

Manulife Hong Kong and Macau CEO Patrick Graham (left) said that leveraging Manulife’s insurance capabilities with New Frontier Group’s medical infrastructure enhances the availability of quality healthcare in the area.

“On the insurance side, we have the capability to provide insurance solutions while New Frontier Group has a vast medical network in mainland China, which will enable us to provide Hong Kong customers with high quality cross border medical services, which is in line with our mission to safeguard the health of our customers,” he said.

Antony Leung (pictured right), group chairman of New Frontier Group, said that the partnership will lead to more holistic and comprehensive medical services for clients who are based in different countries.

“This is not only a new level in our cooperation but also a valuable example of our commitment to increasing the value for society,” he added.

Better Care For Patients With Cancer

It also aims at enhancing the cancer care for the eligible customers. Manulife will provide priority in scheduling an appointment for outpatient cancer treatment at United Family Hospitals in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou.

Patients will be able to receive an independent consultation once to confirm the cancer diagnosis and make the right decision.

In addition, Manulife will arrange limousine pick up and drop off service for customers going to Shenzhen New Frontier United Family Hospital for outpatient cancer treatment to make it easier for them.

Carrie Tong, the chief operations officer of Manulife Hong Kong and Macau, said that the program is aimed at helping customers manage their treatment process by providing for their medical and transportation needs.

“Our initiative removes all the challenges that are associated with medical tourism hence allowing the customers to concentrate more on their health needs knowing that all their medical and travel needs are well taken care of with lots of care,” she said.

Value-added Medical Services

Besides cancer treatment, the partnership brings in other healthcare services for the eligible customers at Shenzhen New Frontier United Family Hospital. These are such things as lower tariffs for health check-ups, postnatal care, and dental treatments, as well as the possibility to obtain the right to receive specialized ward services.

The partnership complements Manulife’s other ventures in the area including the 2022 deal signed with HEAL Medical, another subsidiary of New Frontier Group. That agreement also made HEAL Medical as the first medical centre of Manulife’s GBA Medical Hub.
